2015-09-19: Geocaching In North Florida With Friends Finding Turtle GeoArt

So for today's adventure, we drove up to North Florida and the Osceola National Forest to attend the GeoArt Turtle Kick-Off event. Held at HorseshoeChamps compound and hosted by Geoturtlelover, we all gathered for some socializing before given the go-ahead to get started. We teamed up with YankaBucs, MsYB, and CoalCracker7 to go out on the hunt to find all the Turtle Puzzle caches and a couple more.

A few hours later, we were all back at the ranch, sharing stories, and having lunch. It was a great day ending with a total of 66 caches, our second GeoArt, and hanging out with friends. We even stopped to have dinner in St. Augustine with Candy's family.

of a pencil eraser was hidden somewhere on this bridge.

2015-04-25: Geocaching, GeoArt, a Butterfly, Celebrities, and Friends

OK so you're probably getting tired of me saying this, but WOW what a day! A big day today so we drove up last night to Gainesville, FL and stayed in a hotel so that we wouldn't have a long drive this morning. Today we were meeting up with YankaBucs, MsYB, CoalCracker7 and Parkhoppers to go Geocaching. The goal was to complete the Butterfly GeoArt and the Celebrity power run caches.

We got an early start and conquered the Butterfly caches first and it was OUR first GeoArt ever completed! GeoArt is what you get when all the cache coordinates arrange to form a picture like such:

This was a very creative TB hotel.
Some poor dog was bagged and tossed to the side of the road.

Looks like lightening split this tree in half.
After the Butterfly, we headed over to another power run series each named after different celebrities. Plus there were a few miscellaneous caches mixed in that were nearby. The total finds for the entire day were 155! That sets a new record for us for the most caches found in one day! Plus caching with friends always makes for a fun day. This is such a great game. If you're not a Geocacher, you really should look into it at Geocaching.com.

2015-03-28: An Event and Geocaching Around Lake County

Today was a Geocaching event day hosted by QQnonrev up at the new Lake Hiawatha Preserve in Clermont, FL. It started at 7:30 in the morning, so we were a little late in arriving and missed out on the group photo below. The cachers who attended were: of course the hosts QQnonrev, YankaBucs & MsYB, CoalCracker7, TeamFelixG, RD69, MrsL10, TT23, RAHNNERGOTHUC, kricklick, victorthevmandawson1, TheLF, stephers88, framptoncomesalive, TomToad, DirtyD13, moparots, Turfgator, Pen4, and GeoCharmer81. Had a good time there chatting with some old friends and meeting a couple new ones. And found a few caches in the park also.

After we left there, we ended up heading south picking up random Geocaches. Our total finds for the day was 22. Tomorrow we head back up to the ONF for another hike with a few friends we saw this morning.

2014-07-05: Geocaching With Friends Finding Virtuals and More

Today's Geocaching adventure takes us to Southwest Florida along with some Geocaching friends looking for virtual caches around the Ft. Myers area. This morning we started out early from Orlando and heading down US-27 to LaBelle, FL. There we met up with Geocachers CoalCracker7, the Corbettz gang, and MsYB to begin our adventure.

The first cache was called Giant Oaks and it was a short hike through the woods to find several large oaks. The ankle high grass was still wet from the morning dew and wearing sneakers it wasn't long before my feet were wet too.

CoalCracker7 and myself.
The next virtual cache on the list was called Bird Watching and it brought us to this lake with these two small islands in it. On the islands were thousands of these white birds that always hung out there. On the walk out to view the birds we passed by several huge oak trees with an abundance of Spanish moss hanging from their branches. After the short hike and a few photos, we headed off to the next one.

Not far down the road was the Port LaBelle Marina and our next virtual cache. A quick stop, more pictures, and we continued on.

Next on the agenda, another virtual cache and the largest oak tree in Hendry County. A quick photo and then we headed north of town a few miles to a cemetery and another virtual cache. Don't know much about the cemetery. Here's a photo of the oldest marker found.

From LaBelle, we headed west over towards Ft. Myers. Along one of the back roads, we passed by an old fashioned cattle roundup and had to stop and take a picture.

On the outskirts of Ft Myers, we stopped by the WP Franklin Lock and Dam Complex for an Earthcache on the Caloosahatchee River. The goal here was to learn about the history of the river, the oxbows, the locks and dam. We gathered the necessary information required, watched a boat pass through the locks, and enjoyed the views.

The next few on the list of virtual caches were stops at Lee County Park, the Fort Myers Cemetery in search of a malicious killer, First Street, and then the Edison and Ford Winter Estates.

After finally finding all the virtual caches in the area, we headed over to Veterans Memorial Parkway for a quick 20 cache power run before heading home. Another great day for fun, adventure, history and Geocaching with friends. Until next time...

Hmmm,,, maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot?
