2015-02-07: Geocaching Power Trail in the Ocala National Forest

Today we took another drive up to the Ocala National Forest. This is practically a never ending place to go caching because before you can find them all, they get archived and replaced with new caches due to several events held up here throughout the year. We don't have the opportunity to spend much time up here, so we don't come even close to getting them all!

Anyway, today was a day for the quick (hopefully! some can be challenging) power run along the roadside. Not a day for photo opps, just some park and grabs. But we did manage to find 35 more caches in about 2 hours time up here.

And as usual when leaving the ONF, we stopped at Beef O'Brady's in Umatilla to eat. Not a whole lot of choices in Umatilla anyway.

See ya next time...

2015-02-01: Hiking the Florida Trail thru the Ocala National Forest

What a great day! We met up with YankaBucs and MsYB up in the Ocala National Forest to go Geocaching and hiking along a section of the Florida Trail. Leaving one car at the trail crossing along side Forest Road 599, we drove the other car around and up to State Road 40 where the Florida Trail crosses again. This way we wouldn't have to backtrack.

The hike was approximately 4 miles long, varying slightly between a couple GPS's, phones, and step trackers. Could be the walking in circles at each cache location while trying to find them. This section of the Florida Trail was an easy hike with some minor bushwhacking, again when leaving the trail at the cache locations.

All in all it was a good day finding 21 caches, getting some fresh air and sunshine, and a little bit of cardio exercise. Leaving south out of the ONF, we stopped at Beef O'Brady's in Umatilla for some lunch.

I think they need a new sign.

2015-01-03: Geocaching with Friends in the Ocala National Forest

It's always fun to go Geocaching with a group of friends and yesterday (Jan 3rd) was one of those days. We met up with YankaBucs, MsYB, HorseshoeChamp, Geoturtlelover, and ItchyFeet2Wander in the Ocala National Forrest to find the TAFF and Breaking Bad series of caches. It was a fun fast day in the ONF and we managed to find 65 caches before Candy and I called it a day and headed home. Didn't take a whole lot of pictures except for this creative cache container and a couple of deer and bear tracks.
Today (Jan 4th) Candy and I drove back up to the ONF again to find some more of the TAFF series of caches along with a few others mixed in along the way. We added 42 caches to the found column today.

2014-05-24: In and Around Ocala, FL

Today's adventure brought us up to the Ocala, FL area. Though this time we had two of Candy's grandchildren (ages 12 & 9) with us. Our original plan was to go Geocaching and hiking up the Ocklawaha Visitors Center and Trail. The Ocklawaha Trail is located between the city of Ocala and the Ocala National Forest off State Road 40. That was the plan anyway...

After a short hike and just 2 caches later, the older child started complaining that his ankle was hurting. So back to the trailhead, the car, and plan B.

So we decided to stay along S.R. 40 and find some roadside caches. After about 10 of those, yeah you guessed it. The kids were bored. I did manage to pickup 4 ticks, Candy and the 9 year old each got one. Off to plan C...

I decided to drive over into Ocala to Scott Springs Park where they not only had a virtual cache, but they also had a playground. So after a short walk over to see the springs, we hit the playground for a while before making our way home.

Feeling like a kids again!
